Acrivoula McElhaney (nee Lymberopoulos), known as Voula or Akrivi to those close to her, passed away on June 9th, 2018. Voula was born in Athens Greece to Efthimios and Asimina (nee Galanis) Lymberopoulos of Corinth, Greece.
By the age of 16, she had lost both her parents. Soon after, she immigrated to the St. Louis, MO, where she spent years living with her maternal uncle, William Galanis, surrounded by her mother's brothers and loving cousins.
She moved to Chicago, where additional Galanis oikogenia (family) lived. There, Voula worked for Devon Bank and met attorney Clarence McElhaney (the simultaneous love of her life and bane of her existence). They were married 47 years until his death.
Voula, preceded in death by her husband and brothers, Vasilios, Alexos, Constandinos and Spiro, is survived by her children, Renee Lisette and Tod (Kelly) and grandchildren, Ryan, Brendan and Caitlin.
She was a champion of the xylino kautali ("the wooden spoon"). With this spoon, she instilled wisdom, discipline and fear, and mixed together the dough for her world famous kourambiathes.
