Glen Phillips Obituary

Glen H. Phillips suddenly passed, beloved husband of Sharon nee Wapole. Lovely father of Heather Phillips, Melissa (Michael) Damewood and Alison (Karl) Gustafson. Devoted grandfather of Declan, Ryland and Bryson Sinense, Max and Charlotte Damewood, Grace and Harry Gustafson. Fond brother of Lois (John) Wagner, Gail (James) Babusiack, Joan (John) O'Sullivan, Alan (Diane), Dorothy (Mike) Duffy and the late Donald (Elaine) Phillips. Glen Phillips grew up on South May Street in Chicago, IL and went to Saint Margaret of Scotland parish as a child. He attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory school, the class of 1958. At Loyola University he obtained his undergraduate degree in English and graduated in 1962. He also received his Master's in English from DePaul University and his Master’s in Business Administration from Loyola University. Glen worked at Montogomery Ward, Science Research Associates with IBM, and Apropos Technology. He retired and then found his true passion of publishing Front Porch Review online magazine and leading the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) short story classes. His love of language, learning, and literature was evident throughout his life, even as the “Wise Owl” to his daughters. His other love was all his grandchildren and the joy he felt watching sports, cheering on from the sidelines, and sharing his wisdom.
