Carl Vespa, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, March 8, at JourneyCare Hospice/Rush, where he was embraced by the loving care of staff, family and friends. Carl was born in Joliet, IL on July 14, 1930. He lived the majority of his life in Chicago, where he was a graduate of Bowen High School. He attended the University of Chicago, where he studied physics, and received his College AB in 1949. He received his Master’s Degree from Illinois Institute of Technology. He subsequently worked at Honeywell, Bell and Argonne Laboratories. Carl founded his own company, Nanofast, Inc. in the mid-sixties; his company has specialized in precision and reliable equipment for the scientific community. His brother Ken Vespa and parents, Nicholas and Rose Olivo Vespa, provided critical support in the early development of Nanofast, Inc. Marcia Marie Lane Vespa, deceased wife of Carl, and her five children, Robert Lane, Donna Lane, Julie Lane Ireland, Dan Lane, and Sue Lane Ormuz, were also involved in the company’s formative years and beyond. Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings Raymond (Mary), Diana Vespa Perschke (Gary) and Arlene Vespa. Carl and Hazel Kantola were married July 28, 1973, All five of the Lane children became beloved step-children, along with more than a dozen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren for Carl and Hazel. Visitation will be Sunday, March, 11 at 1:30 pm at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 2335 N. Orchard. Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm, with a reception following. Interment will be Monday, March 12 at 1:00, Graceland Cemetery.
